Frankland Estate

2026 Gruner

Frankland Estate, Frankland River, Western Australia, Australia

The 2026 Grüner Veltliner is grown in the Isolation Ridge Vineyard at Frankland Estate off a total planting of just 1100 vines that were grafted as a trial in 2017. The vineyard is planted on undulating eastern facing slopes and has duplex soils of ironstone gravel and loam over a clay sub soil. The vineyard is managed under certified organic principles, a practice we feel important for reflecting terroir driven wines. Meticulous attention to detail in canopy management ensures a fineness of fruit and purity of character.

Vineyard

Viticulture

Generous late-winter rainfall provided an excellent foundation for the growing season, supporting strong budburst and well-timed flowering in spring. Mild to warm summer conditions encouraged slow, even ripening, allowing flavors to develop with clarity and balance while retaining freshness. The fruit was harvested on 9 March in excellent condition.

Tasting Notes

Aroma

The nose is immediately inviting, with a lifted aromatic profile of saline minerality, ripecitrus and juicy nectarine, complemented by a delicate suggestion of night jasmine.

Palate

The palate is generous and assured, combining a rich, subtly waxy texture with excellent freshness. Fine aniseed notes and classicGrüner pepper spice frame crisp nashi pear and ripe citrus, while a clear mineral salinity brings focus and balance. The finish is long, savoury and composed, with persistent spice and a refined mineral line. Organically grown, estate vinified and bottled. Expressive and finely balanced now, it will continue to develop gracefully with time in bottle.

Winemaking

Wine Making

The fruit is lightly pressed into stainless steel tanks and allowed to settle for 24 hours. The juice is then racked off its heavy lees to a stainless-steel tank for natural fermentation. Bottled early while exhibiting the fruitfulness and freshness of Grüner Veltliner. Minimal sulphur additions at bottling.
