Carousal

Victoria & beyond, Australia

Patrick Sullivan and Megan McLaren's sparkling, aromatic whites and Sangiovese, each variety sourced from a region that suits it.

Carousal looks beyond Patrick Sullivan's Gippsland base, sourcing each variety from a region that suits it. The Blanc de Blancs comes from the southern King Valley at the foot of the Victorian Alps, where cool alpine air flows through each evening.

Chenin Blanc comes from the Mac Vineyard at Wilyabrup in Margaret River, on well-drained sandy, schisty soils just inland from the Indian Ocean. Riesling grows on terra rossa over limestone in the Clare Valley, and Pinot Gris and Sangiovese come from the Alpine Valleys.

Carousal is made by Gippsland winegrowers Patrick Sullivan and Megan McLaren. The name means a lively celebration, and the wines are made for shared tables.

The Sangiovese comes from the Walpole vineyard near Myrtleford, established in 1989 by Mark Walpole and his son Tim. Its 18 ha face north-east on well-drained gravel and red loam.
