Domaine Guy Allion

Thésée la Romaine, Loire Valley, France

Touraine Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay and Côt from the Allion family's Domaine du Haut Perron in the Cher Valley.

Domaine du Haut Perron lies on the right-bank slopes of the Cher at Thésée and Monthou-sur-Cher, facing south-west to south-east. Shallow clay-limestone and flinty clay-silica topsoils, known locally as perruches, sit over a limestone subsoil.

The climate is semi-oceanic, and the steep slopes drain freely. Sauvignon Blanc makes up 68% of plantings, with Gamay at 13%, Cabernet Franc and Côt at 7% each, and Pinot Noir at 3%.

The domaine has passed from father to son for more than four generations. Raymond Allion farmed mixed crops until the 1950s, and his son Guy turned the farm to vines from 1968.

Cédric Allion trained in viticulture and oenology at the Beaune wine school and runs the domaine with Dorothée Allion. Their first Touraine-Chenonceaux was the 2013 vintage, two years after the appellation was created.
