Chris Catlow's Beechworth wines, led by Chardonnay, from single vineyards and growers across Victoria, including the Upper Yarra.
Sentio is based in Beechworth, in north-east Victoria, where vineyards grow on granitic topsoils, or on old sandstone and gravel, over clay. Chris Catlow buys fruit from growers across Victoria and sets out to make wines that show their vineyard, region and vintage.
Single vineyard wines include Black Springs in Beechworth and Lusatia Park at Woori Yallock in the Upper Yarra. Lusatia Park was planted in 1985 on red volcanic soil, facing north at about 200 m.
Chris Catlow was born and raised in Beechworth and worked his first vintages there as a teenager. He went on to a double degree in viticultural science and wine science at La Trobe University.
Seven vintages on the Mornington Peninsula followed. He has also worked five vintages in Burgundy, and founded Sentio in 2013.
