Domaine Amélie Guillot

Arbois, Jura, France

Amélie Guillot's Arbois from all five Jura grapes, grown on 4 hectares around Molamboz; her first vintage was 1995.

The domaine's 4 hectares lie in the communes of Arbois, Molamboz and Buvilly. It grows all five Jura grapes: Chardonnay and Savagnin for whites, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir for reds. Arbois soils are mostly marls, clay-limestone of Lias and Trias age, under a cool oceanic climate with continental influence: cold winters, warm, humid summers and dry, windy autumns.

Grass is left to grow between the rows and mown, and treatments, manure and compost are applied on a reasoned basis. Picking is by hand, with sorting in the vineyard so that only healthy, whole bunches reach the cellar.

Amélie Guillot came to wine at the Beaune wine school in 1987, and work placements drew her to the Jura. She went on to study at Blanquefort and qualified as a national diploma oenologist.

In 1995 she bought 2 hectares of 40-year-old vines at Arbois and made her first vintage that year. She planned to work alone, but the whole family now helps, and since 2010 the equipment has been shared through the Baudines CUMA co-operative in Arbois.
