Domaine Clément Lavallée

Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, Burgundy, France

Chablis and Auxerrois wines from Saint-Bris-le-Vineux: Clément Lavallée's own label and the family's Domaine Grand Roche.

Saint-Bris-le-Vineux sits in the Auxerrois, south-east of Auxerre and south-west of Chablis. Its Saint-Bris appellation is the only one in Burgundy for Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. The family farms 14.5 ha across the Auxerrois and the Chablisien, from Kimmeridgian soils at Courgis to clay-limestone slopes in the Côtes d'Auxerre.

No herbicides or insecticides are used, and old, light tractors keep the soils from compacting. In the cellar no yeast or bacteria are added, and the wines rest on fine lees in closed stainless steel tanks.

Erick Lavallée planted the first vines of Domaine Grand Roche at Saint-Bris in 1987. His children, Caroline and Clément, have run the estate since 2021.

Clément also bottles a separate range under his own name, from Chablis lieux-dits to Aligoté and Irancy.
